Free Coloured Pencil Painting Lesson

I've been hearing how untalented the general population of visitors to my blog tend to be...according to them. At least when it comes to art. I don't for a minute believe it. It's like anything else, the more you practice the better you get. If you never try you will suck at it!

Is there anyone interested in doing a step by step demonstration with me of a simple item? If so, I can do a very simple, but realistic looking painting using just a few of coloured pencils (maybe as little as 3 or 4) that involves a very simple contour drawing. An apple. Everyone can draw something resembling the shape of an apple! If not I can even provide the contour drawing to print out. You can see how talented you really are!

If there is enough interest I'll do it. Leave a comment so I can see whether or not it's worth doing.

If I do this I will do it from start to finish in one post so there will be no waiting for the next step. Most pencil artists charge a fee for a lesson kit, but you'll get it for free! I have to have at least 10 people who are interested for it to be worth my time to create and post it. Why if it's free do I need to have at least 10 people? Because it does take time and I want to know there is actually someone trying the exercise with me.

I'd do it.

That said, I really do think that, just as some people are 'tone deaf', others are 'line deaf,' and may not ever be able to draw.

Kurt I have to agree with you. My Aunt who is very talented tried to help me learn to draw and color when I was younger, This is a very patient lady, and she gave up. My talent is sewing, and I'm pretty good at it, so I'll stay with that. But, I still love the Perp's paintings.

Um, if I share it with my boys, who ARE talented, can that count as 3 votes?

And me, though my four perps keep taking off with my colored pencils. Can I see what I can do with a few shades of green crayons, and a pink highlighter? (and as we speak, child unit #4 is writing on the wall. Sigh.)

I have to agree with Kurt and Grandma C, but maybe we just have bad attitudes. Somehow, though, I really believe people are gifted with a talent at birth, and then it's up to them to cultivate it and it's clear to see that you haven't taken your gift for granted.

That is a very sweet offer. As you know, my art is mostly with acrylic paints though I adore the work of coloured pencil artists such as yourself. I think I would love to give it a try though....so, yes PLEASE!!!

Thank you for your kind words Serena!

I've never tried such a thing since I used colored pencils to draw a Japanese lady in a kimono on a bridge on a piece of house siding. It was 5th grade, I believe. (There was that squirrel carved out of Ivory soap, and the coiled-clay ashtray, but there's not really relevant here.)

If you decide to put the time into doing such a thing, I'd love to take part.
