Week one of a two week pose.  I didn't even bother to ask his name.  I feel so cheap.

Other People Exist

It's been a couple of years, but I've finally worn my way through my graphic tee collection back to the "Other People Exist" t-shirt.  Ironically I was wearing this in line at the Starbucks this morning when a man all but pushed me out of the way to beat me to the head of the line.  He must have really needed a coffee.  I didn't take him down as I normally would.  I find when I wear this tee I'm reminded to be a kinder, gentler me.  Curse you Kurt!

I tend to be a magnet for unwanted attention too.  If there's a nutbag out there....

If there is ever an apocalypse and I survive it, I'm going to the National Gallery and touching all of the art.

Yoga.  It's all the craze amongst the upperclass ducks in the Village of Britannia.  I've noticed they're a lot snootier this year.  Once they start wearing lululemon I'm outta there!

Suck it up buttercup

her: " My room smells bad."
me: " I opened the window to air it out. What's it smell like?"
her:  "Outside. It stinks. I hate that smell."

This rabbit (Nuggies) didn't need rescuing for health reasons, but rather for his poor fashion sense.

Perpetual and I have been remiss in our duties, but after months of no posts, we are back in full force with two posts in a row!

I forget why Perp Choc stopped posting here, but I don't think the internet ever had a better artwork-in-progress blog, whereas it has more than enough snarkily-captioned-humorous-pictures blogs like mine (to which I still occasionally post, even though my top commenter is myself using a different name).

Did Perp Choc quit drawing and painting, or did she just quit posting her work here for us to see? Only she (and anyone else who knows the answer) can say for sure. At least we still have the frog banner to admire. That is all.

Making Lemonade

While most would immediately call the exterminator should they find rats in their abode (or school cafeteria thus shutting services down for two weeks) we prefer to pamper our rats.  That way they feel suitably happy and don't gnaw on your face while you slumber.

Okay, thank you to those who said they would have bought my work from the Figureworks show had they had the chance. BUT, it was bought by a fellow artist, who really loved it and snapped it up just after the show opened.  I don't think it could possibly have a better home.  I'm quite tickled that one of my peers, who never buys art, had to have it.

"It's all there in black and white"

At last nights vernissage Mr. P and I walked around the gallery just after the show opened and checked out all the art work.  On our second pass around Mr. P noticed that someone had placed a red sticker on my tag.

Mr. P.: "Why is there a red sticker on your tag?"

Me:  "That means it sold."

Mr. P:  ".....no, really.  Why is there a red sticker on your tag?"

Me:  "Because it sold."

Mr. P.  "Are any of your relatives here?"

Me:  "It wouldn't surprise me, but that would just be depressing."

I can save face and say that it did get snapped up right away by someone that was not a relative and that I didn't know, who "never buys art" but just loved the work.

Mom and Dad's House
8"x11.5ish"
Ink

I thought 'wouldn't it be nice to work with a medium that's quicker to work with than coloured pencil'.  It was for the first two pictures I did, but somewhere along the way I lost track of the purpose of working in ink and ended up here.  Highly detailed, many hours later, pulling my hair out.  Sigh.  When will I learn?  Probably never.  Just not very bright I guess.

"It's all there in black and white"
ink

$150 (framed)

"It's all there in black and white has been juried into this years Figureworks award show which runs from November 20th to December 2nd at St.Brigid's Centre for the Arts.

Thursday, 5 July 2012

I'm still working on this one.  Pen and Ink drawing of a street on the Market.  Although these can be worked faster than a coloured pencil work, they are very unforgiving.  One mistake and you're done.  Why do I do this to myself;-)

New Art

Just started this oil painting.  It's all blocked in and waiting for additional layers and then details to be added.  It won't be finely detailed like my coloured pencil works but it sure is a lot faster than doing a cp painting.
Here's a picture of a stool with a towel on it in front of a mirror.

Sleeping Tempest

3 different models were used to do this painting.  Not by choice mind you!  (I thought it was the artists that were supposed to be temperamental not the models.)  It's still not done but is unlikely to ever get finished.

I love the heat.  I love the beaches.  I love the odd creatures.  I love the plant life that smells so different.  Tell me again why I should go back to a winter climate.

La Merde

My 9 year old called the family in to ever so proudly show the food chain she had been working on all evening for school.  Mr. P. reminded her earlier that feces was part of the chain so she quickly added it in.  Being in French immersion, she was required to complete this task in French as she is learning Science using only French.  She used the internet as a translator for the words she didn't know.

Beside a cute little picture of a pile of poo were the following words:

le merde

Her bilingual sisters burst into hysterics and she turned red.

"But I used Google translator" she said vehemently.

Indeed it does translate poop that way.  But were she to complete her project in English and write 'shit' we'd probably find it unacceptable.

I used Google to translate the following:

I need to go poo = J'ai besoin d'aller caca  (Google then asks "Did you mean poop?")

I need to go poop = J'ai besoin d'aller merde

I need to defecate = J'ai besoin de déféquer  (but who the heck says that!)

Another dictionary I checked shows the various ways in which merde is used.  From the innocent to the most vulgar (heavy on the most vulgar side.)

So what did I learn?

I asked my 14 year old what she says when she has to go .... merde ..... at school.  She says they just don't say that.

Thinking about this further I realized that generally I don't tell too many people that I have to go .....well, you know.  I just quietly excuse myself for a washroom break.  Those that do like to share this kind of information with others (and you know who you are, and no, it's not Mr. P.) the level of vulgarity used is split about 50/50.

BTW....if you want to say the "shit hit the fan" it's "la merde a frappé le ventilateur"

And finally....why is shit féminine?

I haven't blogged in almost a month and when I finally do it's shit;-)

I found this in my kitchen this morning looking for brains.  It didn't find any.  Don't worry....I beat it to re-death with a soggy dish towel.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Tuesday, 27 September 2011

Only two more sleeps until the show at Orange gallery.  It actually starts tomorrow but the vernissage isn't 'till Thursday.  So, if you're in the neighbourhood......  If I pretend not to know you though, just go with that okay;-)

I told my parents if they go they can't embarrass me.  I told Mr. P. to keep his comments about the most excellent title he chose to himself.  I'm not bringing the kids so they won't have to complain the whole time about looking at the nudes.

Now if I can manage to not embarrass myself......hmmm, no.....that's not possible.  Some how, some way I'll make a fool of myself and be ostricized by the local art community.  I'm just going to have to keep repeating to myself....keep your mouth shut, keep your mouth shut.  Actually, that in itself might draw some attention.

WooHoo!

"Handphibian" and "Turns Out He Wasn't Her Prince After All" (Formerly Other Kurt's Exist) were accepted at the 2nd Figureworks Award Show at Orange Gallery which will occur later this month.

The end of this month now seems so far away!

I feel like I should buy some new shoes.
